MACHIAS -- A three-week-long closure is scheduled for part of Old Machias Road starting Monday to allow Snohomish County road crews to fix a mudslide-damaged embankment.
The shutdown affects the area between 52nd Street SE and 117th Drive SE.
The slide occurred on an embankment below the road. Heavy rains and a failing retaining wall caused the problem. Repairs involve constructing a rock buttress to support the roadway.
During the closure, signs will lead drivers on a detour along South Machias and Richey roads. Access will be allowed for emergency vehicles and people who live in the area.
The closure is expected to last from 7:30 a.m. Monday until 5 p.m. Feb. 1.
