Felony assault charge in fight outside Mountlake Terrace pub

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE -- Prosecutors say a Mountlake Terrace man is the guy in the Seattle Seahawks jersey who was filmed Oct. 4 stomping a person into a coma during a fight outside a local pub.
Bryan James Scott, 21, has admitted he was present for the fight, but denies being involved, Snohomish County prosecutors said in court papers they filed Friday, charging him with first-degree assault.
Scott was among a group of men who began fighting in a parking lot outside O'Houlie's tavern in Mountlake Terrace, according to court papers.
"During the fight punches were thrown, knives were displayed and some of the participants got stabbed," deputy prosecutor Chris Dickinson wrote.
A video surveillance camera documented the fight. One of the men, 32, fell to the ground after being punched in the head.
"The defendant, who is easily identifiable because of the Seahawk jersey he is wearing, then continues to beat (the victim) while he is down," according to court papers. The attack allegedly included kicking and stomping on the unconscious man's head.
Aid crews found the injured man in a pool of blood. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where doctors concluded he had a fractured skull, broken bones in his face and a severe brain injury, Dickinson said. He was in a coma for days and eventually was released to an assisted-living home.
"According to his family, he is essentially comatose with a poor prognosis for recovery," the prosecutor added.
Scott has been identified by witnesses as the person in the Seahawks jersey who was filmed stomping on the man's head but he "denied having anything to do with the act on the victim, despite the video evidence to the contrary," Dickinson wrote.
Others were arrested in connection with the fight. There was no word whether charges are contemplated against them as well.
