Seahawks name Dan Quinn new defensive coordinator

The Seahawks wasted very little time replacing defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, who this morning was hired as Jacksonville's head coach.

Dan Quinn, who spent two years as Seattle's defensive line coach before leaving to be the defensive coordinator at the University of Florida, will return to the Seahawks as their defensive coordinator.

Quinn came to Seattle as Jim Mora's defensive line coach, and was actually in the running for the coordinator job before Bradley was hired. Quinn was retained, along with Bradley, when Pete Carroll was hired in 2010, then left to run the Gators' defense in 2011.

Quinn should be a good fit taking over a defense comprised of many players who know and respect him (his name still comes up a lot when you talk to current players). He was also the coach who suggested moving Red Bryant, who at the time was a little-used defensive tackle, to defensive end. That switch helped Seattle's run defense become one of the best in the league, and turned Bryant into a key piece of Seattle's defense.

The hiring of Quinn could also lessen the blow if current Seahawks defensive line coach Todd Wash, who has history with Bradley going back to their time in Tampa Bay, were to leave. There has been speculation that Wash could become Bradley's defensive coordinator in Jacksonville.
