MONROE — Lyndsay Leatherman was hard to stop in a physical game that saw Arlington edge out Monroe in a Wesco 4A North matchup.
The Bearcats stayed in it the whole way by executing sets well and getting the ball to Breezy Shore, who scored 15 points. Monroe hit a 3-pointer with six seconds remaining but it was too little too late and the Eagles secured the hard-fought win.
“It was a classic Monroe-Arlington game,” said Monroe head coach Matt Chalfant. “It was really physical, there was a lot of agressive play.
“I thought that both teams came out ready and prepared.”
For Arlington Leatherman scored 12 points in her return after being out with a knee injury, according to Chalfant. “(Leatherman) was a force for them inside. She was strong,” Chalfant said. “She was able to get some good post ups and some good looks. She definitely gave us some problems.”
For Monroe it was all about preparation.
“We ran a lot of sets for Breezy (Shore). She absolutely executed,” said Chalfant.
Shore had 15 points and three 3-pointers, with seven of those points coming in the fourth-quarter rally.
