Remember the regional fire authority idea in south county?
(If not, see here.)
I’ve been writing about the ongoing talks off and on for almost two years now. I wrote a brief for Friday’s paper about Lynnwood indicating they’ll likely exit the talks soon.
After all that time and a lot of meetings, things may get figured out next week.
I have a couple of interviews set up and likely will be writing a story in the next few days.
Meanwhile, many of the involved city councils are expected to vote next week on whether to continue the talks or exit them. That will have a huge impact on the shape and size of a potential RFA moving forward.
Here’s the rundown by municipality. Monday’s holiday has moved some of the council/board meetings from their normal timeslots.
Bothell: Declined to participate in talks early on.
Brier: Vote scheduled Jan. 22.
Edmonds: Discussion planned Jan. 22. Vote likely to follow in early February.
Lynnwood: Vote scheduled Jan. 28. City’s RFA committee members have recommended they exit.
Mill Creek: Left talks in December.
Mountlake Terrace: Not on the Jan. 22 agenda. Scheduled to discuss before end of month.
Mukilteo: Vote scheduled Jan. 22.
Woodway: Discussion scheduled Jan. 22. Unclear when might vote.
Fire District 1: Voted last week to continue with talks.
Fire District 7: Discussion and possible vote scheduled Jan. 24.
