Imagine Children’s Museum open for MLK Day

Sign up for Weekend to-do list
Imagine Children's Museum is helping dispense Martin Luther King Jr.'s message of unity from his "I Have a Dream" speech.

The museum, which is usually closed Mondays, will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 21 to honor Martin Luther King Jr., the late civil rights leader.

Guests will get a chance to participate in a community mural art project, the theme of which will be "unity in diversity." The art project is included in the $9 price of admission.

The Art Studio will be open all day for guests to work on the mural, which is a large collage, 5 feet by 3 feet.

The mural's theme is a diversity of ethnicities and is based on a quote from King's "I Have a Dream" in which he said, "I have a dream that little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

Last year's community mural was displayed by the Claremont Village Starbucks, 4919 Evergreen Way, Everett. This year's mural can be viewed at the Claremont Village Starbucks starting Feb. 1.

"They loved the mural so much they displayed it for months," said Raniere, the museum's creative arts manager, in a prepared statement.

In addition to the mural project, guests can enjoy carpet skating in the museum's great room.

Imagine Children's Museum is at 1502 Wall St., Everett. For hours and admission information, call 425-258-1006 or go to www.imaginecm.org.
