Burn bans lifted in Snohomish and King counties

Sign up for HeraldNet Headlines
The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency is lifting burn bans in Snohomish and King counties at 1 p.m. today.

The ban was in place for most of the past three weeks to reduce air pollution during a weather pattern that brought stagnant air to the region. A burn ban remains in place in Pierce County.

Winds are forecast to pick up, according to the Clean Air Agency.

Two levels of burn bans were in effect at different times since late December. The "stage 1" ban allowed burning in newer, clean-burning wood, pellet or gas stoves but prohibited all outside burning. The "stage 2" ban prohibited all burning except for stoves that serve as a home's only source of heat.

Burn ban violations are subject to a $1,000 penalty.
