Everett: Apply for tourism grants

The city of Everett is accepting Hotel Motel Tax Fund applications until 5 p.m. Feb. 8 from public and nonprofit agencies for projects that will help generate tourism.

The grant program is made possible through a hotel and motel room tax in the city of Everett. Grants funds will be awarded on a competitive basis to eligible applicants who can demonstrate ability to complete projects by Dec. 15.

Applications are available by contacting the Everett City Council offices, 2930 Wetmore Ave. Suite 9A in downtown Everett. The application is also available on the city's website: www.ci.everett.wa.us/default.aspx?ID=1550.

Deadline for the applications is 5 p.m. Feb. 8 in the city of Everett Clerk's Office located on the first floor of the Wall Street Building, 2930 Wetmore Ave. For more additional information, contact Shannon Affholter, chairman of the Lodging Tax Advisory, at 425-257-8703.

Terrace: Study shows plentiful parking

Downtown streets have ample parking capacity, according to a study presented by a University of Washington student team to the City Council at a Jan. 22 meeting.

A team of three UW students, Matt Brophy, Allison Hamburg and Chris Bunge, worked with the city on a real-world project as part of a class assignment for their urban planning program. The project provided information about current vehicle parking demand in the downtown and whether any additional on-street parking was needed.

The students examined street parking availability in Mountlake Terrace's Town Center and conducted a comprehensive inventory of the existing use at various times and days. They also inventoried other similar cities to compare parking requirements.

The study found there were 521 parking spaces and that, on average, only 22.6 percent of the parking is used. Peak use of parking on the street was weekday mornings at 31 percent. The lowest use was Sunday mornings, when only 16 percent of the on-street parking was used.

Snohomish: Workshop on organization

Professional organizer Monika Kristofferson will teach a workshop at 2 p.m. Feb. 10 on how to clear out the piles of paperwork and keep the papers you need at your fingertips.

The free program is at the Snohomish Library, 311 Maple Ave. Attendance is limited. To sign up, call 360-568-2898 or go to www.sno-isle.org.
