In response to the Tuesday letter, "Not fair to target former smokers": Has the writer not been listening or reading about the controversy surrounding Obamacare? Nancy Pelosi stated more than once that we wouldn't know what is in the bill until it was voted on by Congress. Did the writer not question that Congress would pass a bill that even they have not read or even completely read? Did she vote for the incumbents that passed this bill? We deserve what we vote for when we don't inform ourselves on the issues.
I empathize with her regarding her insurance. I read in the Herald in the last couple of weeks that people who smoke will be paying $4,000 to $6,000 a year more to their insurance companies for the pleasure of smoking.
More people than the writer will be surprised about what is in the Obama health care bill. I regret that I am unable to help her with her problem. I am concerned about the coal trains ruining our coast lines and destroying property. Genetically modified organisms in our food chain. About the condition of our farm soils and the depletion of minerals by chemical fertilizers over the decades, the over processed refined food, etc. I am glad the writer was able to quit smoking; however, we are all responsible for the choices we make through out life and have to accept the responsibility for them.
