Muse kicks off a run of big-time concerts in Seattle
The English group Muse, known for its spectacular live shows, will headline KeyArena at 7 tonight, bringing their pyramid of LED screens and their elaborate laser lights to the venue.
Many in the U.S. first got a taste of Muse's brand of progressive rock when its hit single "Knights of Cydonia" was featured in the best-selling "Guitar Hero III" video game.
Since then, the group has scored a string of No. 1 hits on the rock charts: "Uprising," "Resistance," and, most recently, the dub step-indebted track "Madness," the lead single from the group's new album, "The 2nd Law."
Tickets are $46.61 to $78.55 at ticketmaster.com or 800-745-3000.
Granted, Muse isn't the only act that's topped the Billboard charts heading this way.
On Tuesday, Fun. will play a sold-out show at the Paramount Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The oddly punctuated pop band seemingly came out of nowhere last year, after its single "We Are Young" was featured in a car commercial during the Super Bowl.
Since then, the indie-rock group has become a mainstay on both pop and rock radio stations, with songs like "Some Nights" and "Carry On" gleefully showcasing the group's Queen-influenced take on pop.
Fun.'s show is sold-out, but marked-up tickets are available at stubhub.com.
Several other big names also can brag about sold-out dates in the coming week.
Soundgarden will headline a sold-out show at the Paramount at 7 p.m. Thursday as it begins a two-night hometown stand.
Sixteen years after the release of its last studio album, the Seattle rock group returned in 2012 with "King Animal," a new collection of heavy metal-influenced alt-rock that was anchored by the wail of lead singer Chris Cornell.
Unsurprisingly, the group will draw a crowd during its hometown shows. Though both dates are sold out, tickets are available at a mark-up at stubhub.com.
Speaking of reunions, the reunited Ben Folds Five also is playing a sold-out show at 7 p.m. Monday.
The piano-driven pop rock group -- which actually is a trio, not a five-piece -- will headline the Showbox at the Market, as it tours behind its new album, "The Sound of the Life of the Mind," which hit No. 10 on the Billboard 200.
Again, tickets can be found at a mark-up at stubhub.com.
And Ellie Goulding will play the Showbox Sodo at 7 p.m. Monday.
The British electro-pop star topped the Hot 100 last year with her sparkling track "Lights." A household name in England, her Seattle show also sold out.
Tickets can be found at a mark-up at stubhub.com.
Finally, Rain, the Beatles tribute act, will conclude its five-day stand at the Paramount Theatre with shows at 8 tonight, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, and 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets are $27 to $47 at stgpresents.org or 877-784-4849.
