SEATTLE -- A King County Jail official says a 32-year-old female inmate has died in the downtown Seattle facility.

Cmdr. William Hayes said Friday that the Seattle woman was found unresponsive early Thursday during a headcount. Jail officers called for the health staff and 911 was notified but the woman was pronounced dead.

Hayes says she was booked into the jail Jan. 25 on multiple misdemeanor charges. She was not immediately identified.

The King County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause and manner of death. Hayes says Seattle police will investigate. Detention officials and local public health officials also review jail-related deaths.
