EASTSOUND — Orcas Island outscored Darrington 21-6 in the fourth quarter as the Vikings denied the Loggers a perfect Northwest 1A/2B/1B League record with a 54-39 victory in the regular-season finale for both teams.
“Orcas Island got really hot shooting and there were too many turnovers for Darrington in the fourth quarter,” Loggers head coach Jeff Anderson said. “You don’t get an opportunity (to go undefeated) in this league very often, so it’s very disappointing.”
Alicia Susol led Orcas Island (4-3 league, 7-6 overall) with 17 points, including two 3-pointers in the final period.
Jordyn Stafford scored 11 points for Darrington (7-1, 17-3). The loss didn’t hurt the Loggers’ postseason seeding. Darrington had wrapped up the league title and a first-round bye in the 2B Bi-District tournament, but Anderson is concerned with how his team is playing.
“Since we secured the league championship, we have not been playing well. We have gotten a little lazy,” he said. “This loss is a little bit of a wakeup call and hopefully we can turn it into a positive.”
