Super Kid: Forrest Arnold, Monroe High School

Q: What is your class schedule like?

A: I am a drum major, and I am taking three (Advanced Placement) classes: AP literature, AP American government and AP calculus.

Q: Where are you planning to go to college?

A: I have a deadline to apply to Carleton College in Minnesota, Whitman College, Reed College and Lewis and Clark College. I have applied to Dartmouth College and Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. It would be awesome to go there.

Q: What are your career plans?

A: I definitely decided not to be a music mayor. I was planning to be a composer, but from the get-go, I knew it was going to be a problem because of the job security. Still, I decided to pursue my musical career in college.

Q: What have you decided to do?

A: I have narrowed it down to something in social science. I'm looking into political sciences. One thing I am very passionate about is the environment. I'm thinking of becoming a lawyer or a diplomat because they are forerunners on that issue. Everyone needs a lawyer, from the government to Green Peace. My goal is to go to my job every day thinking I am helping to make a difference in the world.

Q: What do you do for fun?

A: I'm a huge nerd. I am vice president of the table game club. I love to play the majority of the board games with my friends as well as video games. I play casually with them whenever I can. I'm a big reader of comic books and literature. I definitely read a lot.

Q: What clubs are you involved in?

A: I'm in band, debate club, tabletop game club, Key Club, National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society and Knowledge Bowl. I also like to play lacrosse.

Q: How did you got involved in lacrosse?

A: I got involved through friends. They were playing in middle school. I decided to try it out, and I liked it. It's the fastest sport I have ever played. I have never gotten an adrenaline rush simply by physical activity. It's an awesome experience for me.

Q: What musical instruments do you play?

A: I have played the French horn since the middle of my freshman year when I switched to it from the trumpet. It's better suited for me. I have been playing at the solo ensemble contests since my sophomore year.

I played at the PLU Northwest Honor band. I was selected to the Washington Ambassadors of Music where you go to Europe and play last summer. We went to the U.K., France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Venice in two weeks. That was a whirlwind of an experience.

I also performed with the choir in that group. It was another part of the experience. There were four concerts with the band and seven with the choir.
