Prep girls basketball: Ferndale 54, Shorecrest 35

FERNDALE -- Onyie and Uju Chibuogwu led on offense for Shorecrest with 10 and 8 points respectively, but the Scots couldn't get it done, losing in the first round of the 3A District 1 Tournament to Ferndale. The Golden Eagles were ranked 7th in the state by the AP poll for class 3A schools going into the tournament. They go on to face Glacier Peak 6 p.m. Friday at Lynnwood H.S. Shorecrest can still place as high as third, but will have to win three games in a row to do so. The first of those games is at 7 p.m. Friday at Marysville Pilchuck.
