LAKE STEVENS -- A 13-year-old boy was rescued from Lake Stevens on Wednesday night after falling from a small paddle boat.

The boy was treated for mild hypothermia and was expected to recover, said Perry Putnam, a battalion chief with Snohomish County Fire District 8 in Lake Stevens.

A neighbor called 911 about 5:05 p.m. to report seeing the boy clinging to the boat near the 1100 block of Stitch Road, on the southwest end of the lake.

The boy was in shorts and a T-shirt and wasn't wearing a life jacket, Putnam said. He had been in the frigid lake for about 10 minutes.

A quick-thinking neighbor rowed out to the boy in a boat, Putnam said. The neighbor couldn't pull the boy from the water but got a life jacket around him and began towing him to shore.

Firefighters pulled him onto the dock and began providing medical aid. His family was on scene Wednesday night.
