People are invited to enjoy a free concert by the popular U.S. Navy Concert Band. Doors open at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Everett Civic Center Auditorium, 2415 Colby Ave. in Everett.

The Concert Band is based in Washington, D.C. Its members include Broadway-trained musicians and singers who perform on television and for the president at major national and international events.

Over the years, Everett has enjoyed performances by other Navy bands, including the 18-member jazz band in 2012. This visit is made possible by the city of Everett and Everett public schools.

"This performance will be especially exciting for students from our high schools who will be joining the Navy musicians to play John Philip Sousa's 'Washington Post,'" said Superintendent Gary Cohn. "It is an honor to partner with the city to bring this group to the community and to give our students this experience to play with professionals."

Free tickets to the concert are available online at http://tinyurl.com/bx7o7l5.

Help students: The Edmonds-Woodway High School Parent Student Organization is recruiting and coordinating volunteers from the community to help elementary school, middle school and high school students learn basic skills, complete homework and prepare for tests.

Academic support programs are held at various times, from as early as 7:30 a.m. to as late as 9 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays.
