What's up with the streams of water at Port of Everett?

As if the return of rain this morning wasn't making things wet enough, you may have noticed three huge streams of water arching between W. Marine View Drive and the USS Nimitz at Naval Station Everett.

You get three guesses as to what's going on. The first two don't count:

1. It's the city latest art installation, called "A Tribute to Running Through the Sprinkler."

2. Three gray whales are engaged in Competitive Blowhole-Spouting. Winner gets all the amphipods and plankton he or she can eat.

3. A fire tug is testing its fire-fighting equipment as it undergoes repairs at Vigor Industrial on the Everett waterfront.

After months of repair work, Vigor is testing the water cannons, said Lisa Mandt, the Port's spokesman.

Yeah, we were hoping it was whales, too.
