SNOHOMISH — Mount Vernon’s Kevin Hofstad helped shoot the Bulldogs past Edmonds-Woodway 85-68 on Friday in the third place game of the Wesco 4A district 1 tournament.
With the victory, the Bulldogs will travel to Newport High School for a 7 p.m. game on Tuesday for a spot in the regional tournament.
Hofstad shot 8-for-15, including 4-for-6 from three-point range, and scored 27 points for Mount Vernon.
“It was a phenomenal point guard performance,” Mount Vernon coach Vic Wolffis said. “He has come so far. His leadership at the point guard spot tonight was invaluable. You really can’t gauge how a game might have gone if your point guard collapses under the pressure. He didn’t.”
The team didn’t either. The Bulldogs shot over 51 percent in the first half and built a 45-26 lead at halftime. They continued to build that lead in the third outscoring the Warriors 28-20 and leading by 27 going into the final quarter.
“We did shoot the ball really well,” Wolffis said. “The hidden part of the is the selection of shots. We had a lot of close shots and we had a lot of kick out rhythm three’s.”
