Everett-to-Seattle trains idled by slide

EVERETT -- Sounder Northline service will face more disruptions today and Tuesday due to a mudslide, officials said Sunday night.

The slide was reported to be near Everett.

Northline Sounder service between Everett and Seattle is canceled today.

On Tuesday morning, Sounder will operate regular service only from Mukilteo and Edmonds to Seattle. Tuesday afternoon, if no additional mudslides occur, normal service will resume to Edmonds, Mukilteo and Everett.

Bus service will be available. Monitor www.soundtransit.org for service updates.

Crews usually can clear the tracks quickly to allow freight train traffic to resume, but Sound Transit Sounder trains and Amtrak must observe a 48-hour moratorium for safety.
