JOINT BASE LEWIS-McCHORD -- The Air Force says crews from Joint Base Lewis-McChord have been flying C-17 cargo planes to Mali to help French and Malian forces fighting an al-Qaida group in North Africa.

The News Tribune reported that the missions have involved crews from the 62nd and 446th airlift wings.

Along with crews from Dover Air Force Base they have been delivering troops and supplies from Istres, France.

The Air Force said Friday the C-17s delivered 2 million pounds of cargo in 23 days.
