EVERETT -- A new city initiative aims to draw more visitors by promoting local events to audiences far and wide.

The effort is called Experience Everett. You can find it online at www.experienceeverett.com, on Facebook or on Twitter.

"We firmly believe that this website showcases our unique qualities to travelers while engaging local residents, too," coordinator Sean Straub said.

Over the summer, Everett-based events attracted more than 20,000 people. One of the events, co-hosted by Experience Everett, was the inaugural Everett Craft Beer Festival, which brought more than 3,400 people to the downtown area. Several nearby restaurants reported a jump in business ranging from 50 to 120 percent that day.

The tourism industry employs nearly 15,000 people in the county.
