Front Porch: Speed limit on U.S. 2 near Skykomish now 50 mph

U.S. 2 speed change

Drivers will need to slow down as they approach the town of Skykomish on U.S. 2. The speed limit has dropped from 60 mph to 50 mph.

The Washington State Department of Transportation reduced the speed limit on U.S. 2 through Skykomish after evaluating travel speeds, roadway alignment, existing development and crash history.

Skykomish is within the U.S. 2 Traffic Safety Corridor, which has a goal of reducing serious collisions with enhanced safety.



Free amateur radio classes: The Cascade Radio Club is offering free amateur radio classes next month for people to get their technician class amateur radio license.

The classes will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. March 15, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 16 and a review and license exam at 1 p.m. March 17. Classes will be at the PUD building 2320 California Ave., Everett.

Kids Night Out: The Marysville YMCA is planning a Kids Night Out fundraiser from 7 to 10 p.m. March 1 at 6420 60th Drive NE, Marysville. The event is for kids ages 8 to 11. They'll get to enjoy a fun night swimming, playing and hanging out in the teen center. Bring a swimsuit. All proceeds will benefit teen program Youth and Government.
