ENUMCLAW — Two snowmobilers who became stranded and spent two nights in a snow cave north of Mount Rainier were cold and tired but otherwise OK Tuesday when rescuers with the King County sheriff’s office brought them down to Greenwater.
The two, 44-year-old Glen Markovits and 41-year-old Renee Bennett, told reporters for KING-TV and KIRO-TV they were grateful to the rescuers.
Deputy William Akers said about 40 people took part in the operation. They found the couple just before midnight Monday and walked out by dawn Tuesday.
The couple had gone snowmobiling Sunday but were stuck at the 5,000-foot elevation in blizzard conditions.
Makovits said they were well-supplied, but after spending Monday night in a snow cave he sent his daughter a message with GPS coordinates and asked for help.
