Man struck by car along highway in Lake Stevens

LAKE STEVENS -- A man who apparently was trying to help a stranded driver was hit by a car in Lake Stevens on Tuesday night.

The accident was reported around 9:30 p.m. in the 8300 block of Highway 204 in Lake Stevens.

The man, 49, was transported by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He was reported to have serious injuries.

The man was driving westbound on Highway 204 when he saw a disabled vehicle in the eastbound direction.

Lake Stevens police believe he pulled to the shoulder of the road with the intent of assisting the other driver. He was crossing the highway when struck by a vehicle, police said.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the accident.
