Gonzaga Prep vs. Arlington

When: Today, 3:45 p.m.
Breakdown: Arlington comes into the game with a record of 20-4. The Eagles only losses on the season are to Lynnwood twice and Stanwood and Lake Stevens each once. Arlington played Lynnwood tight for three quarter in the 4A district 1 championship game before the Royals pulled away in the fourth quarter. But the Royals fell to Kentwood in their state regional, while the Eagles earned a victory over Beamer to advance to the quarterfinals. Gonzaga Prep returns to the state tournament with a 23-3 record and is loaded with young talent. The Bullpups made it to the semifinals a year ago before falling to eventual champion Skyview. They are coming off a nine-point win over Union in the state regional to get to the quarterfinals.

How Arlington will win ... It sounds simple, but by making shots. The Eagles have a nice mix of inside and outside play, but when the outside shot is going down they are incredibly hard to beat. If Arlington makes the adjustment to playing in the Tacoma Dome and knocks down it shot early, it could pull off the slight upset over Gonzaga Prep.

Kentwood vs. Lake Stevens

When: Tonight, 5:30 p.m.
Breakdown: Like two of our other five state qualifiers, the Vikings are facing a team they have faced before. Lake Stevens defeated Kentwood 65-47 at the Les Schwab invitational earlier in the season. This Conquerors team figures to be different though. They are coming of a 61-60 double overtime victory over Lynnwood in the state regional round to advance to the quarterfinals. That alone should give the Vikings pause as they fell to the Royals both times they played them this season. But Lake Stevens has been hot itself. Ever since Brooke Pahukoa returned from injury late in the season, the Vikings only loss was to Lynnwood and they are coming off a convincing 54-34 win over Davis in the state regional round.

How Lake Stevens will win ... By revisiting the past. The Vikings easily beat Kentwood earlier in the season at the Les Schwab invitational. This game figures to be closer, but if the Pahukoa twins can lead the Vikings the way they did in that game and the way they have recently, Lake Stevens could be headed to the semifinals.

Glacier Peak vs. Bellevue

When: Today, 2 p.m.
Breakdown: This won't be the first time the teams have played. They met early in the season and Bellevue got the better of Glacier Peak, winning 46-43. Both teams will be much different this time around. The Wolverines are better, coming into the game with a 24-2 record coming off a 58-51 over No. 1 ranked and defending state champion Prairie in the state regionals. The Wolverines are loaded with young talent that has grown throughout the season. The Grizzlies come into the quarterfinals with a record of 18-6 and are coming off a seven-point win over Enumclaw in the state regionals.

How Glacier Peak will win ... With defense. The Grizzlies have made an effort to slow the ball down and play sound defense all season. It may not be the prettiest basketball, but it works. If Glacier Peak can get the Wolverines to play its pace than the Grizzlies have a chance to pull the upset and advance to the semifinals.
