After scoring just four points and shooting 2-for-10 from the floor in Mountlake Terrace’s 68-47 loss to the Lincoln Abes in the 3A state quarterfinals, guard Marquis Armstead took to twitter saying “I played horribly. Not even going to front.”
Friday afternoon in a loser-out game against University, Armstead rebounded in a big way. He scored 12 points in a 59-56 win, but none bigger than his final three points.
With the game tied 56-56 and less than 10 seconds to play, Armstead found the ball in his hands. He first used a screen to try to go right, but the defender overplayed so he went left and attacked the rim. Armstead not only scored, but drew a foul. After converting the free throw the Hawks had a three-point lead with 5.8 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
“I saw that the clock was winding down and I knew we were going to run an on-ball screen,” Armstead said. “I knew I wanted the ball and once I got the ball, I knew I wasn’t going to do anything to mess up that game.”
