Village Theatre rolls out 2013-14 production schedule
Performances will have earlier start times on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 7:30 p.m. rather than 8 p.m. It's also adding a 2 p.m. Thursday matinee option to its subscription series.
"Les Miz" will be Village Theatre's program for January, so eager fans will have to be a bit patient. But while waiting, a production of "Xanadu," the tongue-in-cheek musical, will help you "skate" through your wait.
The new season lineup:
"Xanadu": Oct. 25 through Nov. 17. If you like Greek myths and leg warmers and roller disco, you'll be entertained with this production based on the movie starring Olivia Newton John and Gene Kelly, which featured a Greek muse visiting from Mt. Olympus to help create the world's first roller disco. Song hits include "I'm Alive," "Suddenly" and "Magic."
"Les Miserables": Jan. 10 through Feb. 2. This massive story of revolution and love will play out in the imaginary streets of Paris and presented in Village Theatre's intimate 510-seat house as the Pacific Northwest's first local professional production of this show.
"The Foreigner": March 7 through March 30, 2014. This Larry Shue comedic farce focuses on Charlie, who pretends he doesn't speak English at a Georgia fishing lodge only to discover people say the damndest things to foreigners.
"The Tutor": May 2 through 25, 2014. This new musical comedy with a fun pop score involves a struggling young novelist who writes during the day and tutors rich kids in the afternoon to make money and discovers his muse in a sullen 16-year-old from the Upper Eastside.
"Funny Girl": July 11 through Aug. 2, 2014. The musical that launched Barbra Streisand's career returns with darling Fanny Brice singing and dancing such favorites as "Don't Rain on My Parade," "People" and "You Are Woman, I Am Man."
