BELLINGHAM -- Police have arrested a 27-year-old man for investigation of three attempted kidnapping cases in Bellingham.

Police say Jake J. Unick was booked into the Whatcom County Jail on Thursday after he turned himself in following questioning by detectives about the three incidents.

Two occurred on March 1 and both victims had something sprayed in their eyes. The first was a 13-year-old girl waiting for a school bus and the second was a 24-year-old woman walking on a sidewalk that evening. Both resisted and got away.

The third incident involved a 2-year-old child who became separated from her parents Monday at a Fred Meyer store. Unick works at the store but was not working at the time. He said he found the child walking outside, but video showed him leading her away.
