Theft of supplies threatens Darrington archery tourney

DARRINGTON -- First, the coffee turned up missing.
Then, the paper plates, the garbage bags and frozen hamburgers and hot dogs.
The thieves also took a meat slicer, an old microwave oven with a broken display and gallon-cans of gravy.
Late last week, someone broke into the Darrington Archery clubhouse along Sauk Avenue. They made off with supplies stockpiled for an upcoming tournament this summer.
"They just nearly took everything," secretary-treasurer Candy Vincent said Monday.
Club members are heartbroken, she said. The club's starting budget for 2013 was $1,500.
She estimates the loss, including an old all-terrain vehicle, at $3,000.
The nonprofit club has been around about 30 years, she said. It counts about 20 active members from all over the region, most of them retired.
The club hosts at least two big tournaments a year, she said. Hundreds visit from around the world.
"It benefits the whole town when people come because they also spend money here," she said.
The crime is curious, though. Electronics were left behind. The club's public announcement system was sitting outside behind a shed. Outdoor stand-alone bathrooms were tipped over.
The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office is investigating, spokeswoman Shari Ireton said Monday. There are no suspects or leads.
The club is asking for donations to replace what's missing. Most needed are food and drink supplies for the summer tournament. For more information, call 360-436-0282.
Anyone with information about potential suspects or the stolen blue 1993 Yamaha ATV with front and back racks can call police at 425-388-3845.
