Here in the good ol' United States, St. Patrick's Day is a holiday mostly known for alcohol -- good Irish whiskey if you're lucky, green beer if you're less so. But there's more to the holiday than booze -- there's also food!

You can, of course, make corned beef at home, or you can go out and enjoy the holiday in the company of other revelers.

If you'd like to celebrate in style and not have to do the washing-up, here are a few suggestions for a fulfilling St. Patrick's Day weekend. (The actual holiday is Sunday).

The Irishmen
2923 Colby Avenue, Everett; 425-374-5783; www.theirishmen.com

This popular pub on Colby Avenue in Everett keeps the Irish spirit alive all year. St. Patrick's Day, though, is an especially favorable time to visit.

The pub will celebrate all day on Sunday. It will be open extended hours, from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday. There will be live music and dancing. And, of course, there will be food.

You'll find favorites like shepherds pie and a traditional Irish breakfast: Irish bangers, black and white pudding and Irish bacon. The Guinness beef stew would also be a fitting meal. And If you'd like to hear even more live music, The Voodoos are scheduled to play at 9 p.m. Saturday at the pub.

Shawn O'Donnell's Irish Pub
122 128th St. SE, Everett; 425-338-5700; www.shawnodonnells.com

Shawn O'Donnell's has a variety of activities planned for the St. Patrick's Day weekend, from Friday to Sunday.

Highlights include a pipe band, a beer garden, wine and whiskey tastings, a soda-bread-baking contest, Celtic crafts and live music.

If you'd really like to get into the spirit and don't want to drive, there are even special deals at nearby hotels. Check the O'Donnell's website for full details.

The restaurant is proudly Irish all year, offering favorites like corned beef and Irish nachos, and plenty more.

Leatherheads Pub & Eatery
10209 270th St. NW, Stanwood; 360-629-5555; www.leatherheadspub.com

Leatherheads Pub & Eatery in Stanwood will also celebrate all weekend long, beginning with Northsound Brewers Night at 6 p.m. Friday.

Live music is planned every day.

Corned beef and cabbage will be served all weekend, along with Guinness specialty drinks, including Guinness floats. Check the pub's website for the full lineup of music and events.

St. Patrick's Day dinner cruise
Emerald Star, Waterways Cruises HomePort, 2441 N. Northlake Way, Seattle; www.waterwayscruises.com

For something completely different, try a cruise on Seattle's lakes from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday on the Emerald Star.

The cruise will feature live Celtic music such fare as soda bread, corned beef, cabbage, Bailey's ice cream and whiskey bread pudding.

Tickets are $53 general; $47 for military personnel; $26 for children ages 5 to 12; free for children 4 and younger free; gratuity, sales tax and port fees are additional.
