$10K in plants taken from Vashon nursery
A King County sheriff's spokeswoman says an employee discovered the items missing last weekend. Several planks had been pulled off an outer fence and an inner wire fence had been cut
KOMO-TV said the thieves stole Japanese maple trees, which retail for about $100 each. They also took large white Himalayan birch trees, five-gallon hydrangea plants, and a rare type of soil.
Nursery owner Kathy Wheaton said it's the sixth time the nursery has been hit in the past eight months.
Sheriff's detectives are investigating. Nursery manager Lance Neifert said customers have been donating money to help pay for a new fence. And the business plans to install infrared cameras.
