Front Porch: Volunteer at lighthouse

The second and final Mukilteo Lighthouse volunteer training session will be held today from 10:00 am to noon at the Light Station.
Volunteers are asked to spend only 5 hours a day, once a month from April through September, at either the lighthouse or gift shop, greeting visitors and sharing the history of the lighthouse with the thousands of visitors who choose to visit this landmark each year.
For more information, contact Mukilteo Historical Society President Lisa Romo at 425-374-7968.
Bring artifacts: The archaeology collections manager at the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture plans a talk and then a session to identify artifacts at the Monroe Library today.
Laura Phillips will be joined by archaeologist Philippe LeTourneau of the King County Historic Preservation Program to identify objects.
It's part of the Monroe Historical Society's annual membership meeting and program. The talk begins at 10:30 this morning at the library, 1070 Village Way.
Residents are encouraged to bring up to two items for identification, including American Indian artifacts from the Pacific Northwest made from bones, antlers, rocks and shells. No appraisals will be given. The experts do not authenticate items for sale. Artifact ID Day is an annual event at the Burke Museum in Seattle. For more information, call 360-217-2773 or go to www.monroehistoricalsociety.org.
Fire district audit: The Monroe Fire Commission plans to meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday to listen to the preliminary results of Monroe Fire District's audit of 2010 and 2011 given by the Washington State Auditors.
Commissioner board meetings are held at the Snohomish County Fire District 3 headquarters station, 163 Village Court, Monroe.
