EDMONDS -- Mountlake Terrace captialized on Edmonds-Woodway errors in the fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead that ended up being enough for the nonleague win.

Neither team scored after the third inning, with the Warriors leaving seven runners on base in the final four frames.

"We were threatening the whole time, but we just couldn't get the key hit," said Edmonds-Woodway pitching coach Will Budnick.

Mountlake Terrace pitchers Ben Reijonen and Connor Clausen scattered five hits and walked six but limited the Warriors to just three runs in the game's first three innings. The Warriors, meanwhile, struck out 10 and walked five.

One big inning was all the Hawks needed. They led off the second with an infield hit to the hole at short and bunted the runner to second. A pick-off attempt at second was dropped, moving the runner to third. Mountlake Terrace followed it up with another infield hit and another bunt. Another pick-off attempt was disrupted and Terrace's Jason Shevenko followed with a double to drive in two.

"That was kind of the nail in the coffin on that inning," said Budnick.

Still, there were a few bright spots for the Warriors.

"From the fourth inning on our pitching was really solid," said Budnick

"(Mezich) threw very well. He struck out three and had a real nice curve ball going. Chantz Justice threw really well also."
