Jackson softball comes from behind to beat Lake Stevens

MILL CREEK — Trailing by two going into the bottom of the seventh inning, Jackson’s Jessica Roy hit a two-run home run to tie the game and Sophia Frost knocked in Kayla Ellis with a walkoff double as Jackson beat Lake Stevens 7-6 in a nonleague game on Tuesday.

Roy, the only senior on the Timberwolves’ young squad, batted 2-for-4 and hit her third home run in three games and Frost — also the game’s winning pitcher — finished 3-for-4 to go along with her game-winning hit.

“Sophia is just a freshman,” said Jackson head coach Kyle Peacocke. “She’s pretty much our number one pitcher this year. I wouldn’t say that we played the best defense behind her (today), but she got out of a couple real tough situations early in the game.

“Offensively she’s gone 3-for-4 the last two games. Her performance has been veteran like, but we’re not asking her to do much other than to stay within herself and to let things come to her.”

Prior to the late-inning rally the Timberwolves’ offense struggled early against Lake Stevens starting pitcher Sierra Card. Peacocke said things changed after some much-needed adjustments.

“One of the things we preach to our kids is to never give up,” Peacocke said. “(Card) was getting ahead of our hitters (early). Our kids made adjustments. We knew we needed baserunners and we knew we needed to try to get deeper in counts.”
