Ten Everett officials' salaries under review

EVERETT -- Salaries for the city of Everett's 10 elected officials are in the hands of an appointed commission, which plans weekly meetings this spring to decide whether any pay raises are in order.
The group of seven plans to get together Wednesdays at 2 p.m., including a meeting Wednesday in the 8th floor hearing room at the Wall Street Building, 2930 Wetmore Ave. The first meeting was Feb. 27.
They'll be looking at job descriptions and comparing what people earn in similar positions throughout the state. Under the schedule in effect through this year, annual pay is about $159,000 for Mayor Ray Stephanson and about $27,000 for City Council members. The council member selected as president receives about $35,000. One municipal judge receives about $142,000 in salary and the other, who works part-time, about $113,000.
The Citizens' Commission on Salaries of Elected Officials convenes every other year. The new schedule will apply in 2014 and 2015.
Under the city charter, the commission must complete its work by May 1. The commission is required to conduct two public hearings before approving the new salaries.
