Ahoy: Pirates set sail for fun
The April Fools Shipwreck Weekend runs Friday through Sunday in Everett and includes bowling, a memorial, feeding the homeless, karaoke, wine tasting and more, aimed especially at those who like to dress the part.
Public events are highlighted by A Very Pirate Wine Tasting, set for 1:30-3:30 p.m. Saturday at Port Gardner Bay Winery, 2802 Rockefeller Ave. Cost is $10 for pirates, $20 for landlubbers (those not in costume).
A Shipwreck Ball is that night, starting at 9, at The Anchor Pub, 1001 Hewitt Ave. A costume party for civilian pirates is part of the festivities.

Splash: April Pools Day in MLT
The city of Mountlake Terrace plans its annual water-safety event, April Pools Day, 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Recreation Pavilion pool, 5303 228th St. SW.
The free, family event is sponsored by Swedish/Edmonds and the Mountlake Terrace Recreation Department. Activities include a free swim, a drawing for a life jacket, and safety tips.
The event will also feature a special appearance by Margaret Hoelzer, 2004/2008 Olympian and three-time medalist, from 10 to 11 a.m.

Nominate: Help find city's 'hidden gems'
The city of Mountlake Terrace seeks nominations for its fifth annual Evergreen Awards program, which aims to build community pride, enhance the city's image, and promote conservation.
There are five categories of awards: Best Maintained Residence, Best Maintained Business, Best Maintained Multifamily Property, Most Sustainable Property, and Best Transformation. Nominees are judged against properties within the same neighborhood: Cedar Terrace, Gateway, Lake Ballinger, Melody Hill, Cascade View, and Town Center.
Nomination forms, available online at and at city facilities, will be accepted through May 24.

Learn: Club holds dog sports seminar
West Highland White Terrier Club of Puget Sound presents a Canine Sports Seminar, 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. April 6.
Learn about sports geared at terriers, but all dog lovers welcome.
The seminar will be held at Edmonds Lutheran Church, 23525 84th Ave. W. No dogs are allowed in the church except those involved in the demonstrations.
Cost is $35 for club members, $40 non-members, and includes lunch. Registration is required.

Vote: Marysville seeks feedback on plans
The city of Marysville invites the public to a special meeting to share ideas for revitalizing the downtown and waterfront area, and ways to create a more vibrant, pedestrian-friendly downtown.
Marysville University will provide the setting for the public meeting, 6:30-8:30 p.m. April 10 at City Hall, 1049 State Ave.
The evening will include interactive "pulse pad" voting that will give attendees a say in how to prioritize long- and short-term goals. The pulse pads provide instant feedback with results displayed on a large screen.
