Man arrested for allegedly beating girlfriend
Detectives from the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit were called to the 8600 block of 27th Avenue NE on Friday to investigate a domestic violence assault report.
They were told the woman, 31, repeatedly had been struck on the head with a pipe.
Bleeding heavily, she ran from the home and took refuge at a neighbor's home.
Witnesses called 911.
The victim was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, sheriff's Lt. Kathi Lang said
A trail of blood led to the man's Marysville-area home, but he was gone.
Deputies caught up with the man, 54, about a mile away. He was arrested for investigation of assault and booked into the Snohomish County Jail. An Everett District Court judge set bail at $25,000.
It wasn't the first time the man has run afoul of the law.
In 2004, he pleaded guilty to assault after shooting a man in the stomach following a disagreement over money. The victim hit him with a stick before the shooting, according to Everett police reports. A witness told police that the defendant was at least 10 feet away when he shot the man.
Also in 2004, the man pleaded guilty to telephone harassment after threatening to kill a man over a dispute involving ownership of a truck.
Court papers filed after the Friday arrest indicate the man has a history of mental health issues.
After the shooting case, he was ordered to get a mental health evaluation.
