No one hurt in Everett explosion

Editor's note: For the newest version of this story, see here.

UPDATE 2 p.m.: Everett Fire Marshal Rick Robinson says the house was vacant. It's due for demolition "in the very near term." Explosion was caused by natural gas. The exact cause of ignition is unknown. Earlier details below.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No injuries were reported in an explosion and fire at a house in north Everett on Wednesday morning.

The fire was reported about 10:13 a.m. in the 1200 block of 41st Street, Everett Fire Marshal Rick Robinson said.

Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the one-story house, which has a basement and attic, he said. The front door was blown off the hinges, and broken window glass was scattered on the front yard.

"It looks like there was some kind of explosion," he said.

The fire itself appeared small, he said.

Crews did a preliminary search of the property and didn't find anyone inside, he said. A second search was planned.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Drivers may want to avoid the area for awhile.
