DirecTV tries original script
Wednesday night, the cable provider launched the original drama series 'Rogue." It stars Thandie Newton as an undercover detective who must return to an old case in an effort to find out what caused a tragedy in her own life.
The gritty drama is DirecTV's first original scripted series. It did produce seasons of "Friday Night Lights," but that drama had already been established on NBC.
"Rogue" airs at 9 p.m. on Wednesday nights on DirectTV Audience Network.
Here's a look at the cast:
Thandi Newton plays Grace Travis, an undercover cop in Oakland. You know her from "Mission: Impossible II" and "W."
"I really wanted to work on something that had more of an arc, more complexity, and I think the best adult drama is in television these days," Newton said.
"It's a psychological drama. Everything that happens in the story is driven by character and by emotion and that's something, for an actor. There's nothing like it."
"Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" star Marton Csokas said he was drawn to the role of mob boss Jimmy Lazlo because it's a study of the corruption of the American Dream.
"He comes into this piece somewhat jaded and tired of attempting to live that American dream within the corrupt nature of the crime world," Csokas said.
Leah Gibson plays Cathy Lazlo, Jimmy's wife. Gibson was in "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" and "Supernatural."
Gibson calls the series intense and dark.
