Regarding the letter, “Closing control towers is so wrong”: I could not believe the biased ranting about President Obama and closing control towers among other issues.
As I recall, it was a majority of Republicans in Congress who made sure the “sequester” happened. President Obama wants to seek tax rate hikes to the wealthy and to the big businesses to help balance the budget. The Republicans want cuts to services, especially for the poor, the senior citizens, and the disabled. Did the writer not read in Saturday’s Herald about the Southern states that will absolutely not vote to increase Medicaid in their states, even though their states need it the most, because President Obama is in the White House, for two terms no less, and, because he is “black.” Read the article all the way to the end, you’ll see what I mean.
The closing of the smaller control towers around the country is due to this “sequester.” Contract towers are smaller and not used for airlines to do their business like, say, Sea-Tac. Only small planes can fly out of these airports. Visual contact is easier for them than it is for the airlines’ jets.
President Obama’s “lavish vacations” — do we have to go into this again? President Bush spent more money and had more vacations than the last several presidents. It’s been in The Heralds’ Opinion page several different times.
To say that we have enough money to give “do-nothing Democrats” a raise; doesn’t it also stand to reason that “do-nothing Republicans” get a raise also? However, I don’t recall that Congress has given themselves raises lately (say in the past two years.)
President Obama does not have complete control over budget cuts. Our Congress shares a huge responsibility for that, since they have to vote on any budget proposals. Remember, we have a balance of power in place so no one branch has more power over the other two branches of government.
