Pickwick launches the Capitol Hill Block Party
This was Pickwick's first time playing at Neumos and their first Seattle show this year. That is interesting, since Pickwick released their debut album Can't Talk Medicine last month (which is completely amazing and you should go buy it on iTunes right now!). Rather than having a huge blowout record release party in their hometown of Seattle like most bands would, Pickwick hit the road to tour the West Coast and play big festivals like SXSW and Treefort.
All of that made last night's sort of surprise, pretty much free show feel like a cool thing to be a part of.
Leaving the show last night left me with the feeling that even though it's not officially summer yet, the summer festival season has begun. The lineups for Sasquatch, Capitol Hill Block Party and Timber are already announced. Bumbershoot, Doe Bay Fest and others are announcing their lineups soon. No matter where you land, this is certain to be one great summer for music in the Seattle area and I couldn't be more excited.
"See you in July" said Pickwick singer Galen Disston at the end of the show.
