TACOMA — A Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman says a 10-year-old boy on a bike was killed Thursday night when he rode into the path of a pickup truck in Spanaway, Wash.
Spokesman Ed Troyer said the boy pulled in front of the oncoming vehicle as he left a friend’s driveway to ride seven blocks to his home.
The News Tribune reported that Troyer said that the 64-year-old Spanaway man driving the truck slammed on his brakes but couldn’t avoid the boy.
The spokesman says the driver was not impaired and the death appears to be “a tragic accident.”
The boy’s name was not immediately released.
