Outfielder Casper Wells has been claimed off of waivers by Toronto, the Mariners announced Wednesday. Wells, 28, was in a battle for a roster spot with Jason Bay, and when the Mariners settled on Bay and designated Wells for assignment, they did so knowing they could lose Wells, which is what happened Wednesday.
Wells came to Seattle in July of 2011 as part of the trade that sent Doug Fister to the Tigers. He hit .225 with 17 home runs and 51 RBI in part of two seasons with the Mariners.
