LAKE STEVENS — The city’s search for a new police chief is moving along.
An open house with the final candidates is planned next week.
Twenty people applied for the job from all over the country, Lake Stevens city administrator Jan Berg said last week.
Interview panels are planned April 16.
City council members are scheduled to meet with the final candidates that evening. Afterward, a public open house meet-and-greet with the candidates is planned from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Community Center at 1808 Main St.
City leaders have said they hope to select a new chief by May 1.
The public job posting said the city was seeking a candidate who could “set a policing tone that is firm, fair and friendly and is underpinned with visible and open communication.”
Experience with community outreach and modern crime-prevention techniques also was recommended.
The city worked with the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs on the search. They accepted applications for about a month. Screening began in mid-March, city records show.
The job pays $100,000 to $121,500 a year.
