EVERETT — A political blogger who pursued recall attempts against Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon last year is now targeting the man viewed as Reardon’s most likely successor.
Gold Bar attorney Anne Block on Wednesday filed a recall petition with the county auditor accusing Sheriff John Lovick of failing to adequately investigate her claims about being harassed by county government employees.
A Superior Court judge must decide whether the petition meets legal requirements for Block to begin gathering signatures. A court hearing will establish whether Block has presented evidence showing any misfeasance or malfeasance on Lovick’s part.
Reardon in February announced plans to resign from his office at the end of May, although he has yet to submit his written resignation. Reardon’s plans would appear to render moot Block’s recall efforts against him. Reardon is a Democrat, and under the county’s charter, his party must pick three candidates to succeed him, with the final selection up to the County Council. Lovick has announced plans to seek the post Reardon says he will vacate, and so far appears to be the strong front runner.
