Sac fly in seventh gives Scots softball win over MP

MARYSVILLE — Shorecrest’s Anisa Gomez hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning to break up a 4-4 tie and the Scots went on to defeat Marysville Pilchuck 5-4 in a Wesco 3A crossover game.

With one out in the seventh, Jeanna Berg singled off Tomahawks reliever Haley Fritz. Berg advanced to third on two passed balls and Gomez hit a fly ball to right field that was deep enough to tag on.

The Scots’ Amanda Eshelman went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a triple, while Haley Fritz and Abigail Otto each had two hits and two RBI for Marysville Pilchuck. The Tomahawks scored three of their four runs in the third with Fritz hitting a two-run double and Otto adding a sacrifice fly.

However, MP couldn’t muster any more runs after the third. Berg said Shorecrest starter Amanda Hartley made some adjustments after MP’s big inning.

“(Hartley) started pitching harder and she started to pitch off the plate (hitting the corners),” said Shorecrest head coach Jackie Berg. “She really tightened up after (the third).”
