Mountlake Terrace boys track team finishes season undefeated

SNOHOMISH — The Mountlake Terrace boys track team defeated Glacier Peak 80-65 and Meadowdale 104-40 to finish the Wesco 3A season undefeated (9-0) for the first time in school history in a dual meet between the three schools on Thursday.

Gifton Okoronkwo topped the 45-foot mark in the triple jump once again for the Hawks, finishing in first place with a jump of 45 feet, 3.5 inches. Other highlights for Mountlake Terrace included Jack Pearce winning the 1,600-meter final with a time of 4 minutes, 33.89 seconds and Quinnell Mason breaking the 52-second mark in the 400 meter for the first time in his career, with a time of 51.98.

“The excitement is there,” said Hawks head coach Russ Vincent. “I don’t care who you are. It’s nice to go undefeated anytime in any sport.”

On the girls side Glacier Peak defeated Mountlake Terrace 89-60 and the Hawks defeated the Mavericks 95.5-40.5.

Amy-Eloise Neale paced the Grizzlies in the 800-meter final with a time of 2:13.09, more than twenty seconds ahead of teammate Sam Northrop. The Mountlake Terrace girls were led by freshman Chinne Okoronkwo, who finished first in the long jump with her personal best 18-1.
