The Edmonds School District has $15.5 million left over after completing and paying for projects from the 2006 capital construction bond and facilities and technology capital levies from 2004 and 2008. At a meeting April 16, the Edmonds School Board approved a resolution to apply the excess money to five other capital projects:
•Demolition of Melody Hill Elementary School;
Various traffic safety improvements;
A theater sound system at Mountlake Terrace High School;
Improvements at Edmonds Elementary, including new fascia;
New gutter system at Chase Lake Community School.
The excess funds is expected to cover the costs of the five projects.
The school board could have used excess bond funds to lower the amount of original debt but opted to reallocate the money to other needed projects on its list, district staff said. Unused capital levy funds cannot be refunded to taxpayers.
