BELLINGHAM — A Western Washington University teaching assistant is accused of shooting another man in Bellingham.
Police said the victim was found wounded Saturday on a sidewalk.
Spokesman Mark Young told The Bellingham Herald that the man survived but details are not being released.
After the shooting, the suspect called police and Kamuran Daniel Chabuk, 27, was booked into jail for investigation of assault. A handgun was seized from his home.
Chabuk made his first appearance Monday in Whatcom County Superior Court and bail was set at $200,000.
The university said Chabuk is a 2008 graduate who was working toward a master’s degree in math. He has taught math classes at the university and had led a pre-calculus course this quarter. He’s barred from campus during the police investigation.
