KENT — Joakim Soderqvist batted 2-for-3 with a double but South Kitsap starter Josh Johnston shut down the rest of the Timberwolves’ offense as the Wolves defeated Jackson 3-0 in a 4A State regional game at Wright Field on Saturday.
Johnston struck out eight Timberwolves hitters en route to the shutout win that advanced South Kitsap to the state semifinals.
Despite the opening-round loss, Jackson head coach Kirk Nicholson remained positive as he reflected on his squads successful season.
“Our goal every year is to make the playoffs,” Nicholson said. “From there you try to move on. We thought going into the year that we’d have a question mark at catcher, but (Alex) Kiel stepped up. We had a great year pitching. Our outfield play was unbelievable. Joakim is as good as anyone we’ve ever had defensively. I love my group of kids. They worked hard all year and this was just a fun group to be around.”
